Women of Kinnelon

Beatrice Kinney Lamontagne

early–mid 20th c.

Founders & Heritage

A woman acting as steward of significant art and family heritage.

A daughter of Francis S. Kinney, Beatrice inherited a bronze Madonna and Child statue (cast by the Thiébaut foundry in Paris and associated with the artist Gustave Doré) that her father had placed in St. Hubert's Chapel. In 1947 she donated the statue to St. Mary Help of Christians Church in Aiken, South Carolina — where she was a winter resident — as a memorial to her husband, Harry Lamontagne. The act preserved a piece of Smoke Rise's artistic legacy.
