The Women of Smoke Rise
1960s
Founders & Heritage
Honoring the un-bylined labor by women that built the community.
The Morris Kinney Memorial Library (the Smoke Rise Library), established in the early 1960s, was — per the community record — operated for a number of years by the Women of Smoke Rise, until it closed around 1970–71. A collective contribution: women who ran a community institution whose individual names the record largely did not keep.
